Fun Fact: Contrary to popular belief, Bermuda is not part of the Caribbean.
In fact, check out this little map for reference:
As you can see, Bermuda is all by it's lonesome and at a comparable location to South Carolina, as opposed to the much further south Caribbean islands.
While on Bermuda, locals we met seemed very interested in making this point clear ;-)
Fun Fact: Bermuda is shaped like a fish hook and is about 22 miles long and 1 mile wide.
Being docked here for 3 days is wonderful because you can really get off the boat and explore compared to other itineraries which are more rushed.
The Royal Naval Dockyard is located at the tip with the red pin. That is where the Celebrity Summit was docked on our trip.
I absolutely recommend renting a scooter during your trip to Bermuda. We had never used one before this trip, but it was such a blast! It was great to have the flexibility to get up and move at any time you wanted and to pull over to check out a stunning vista.
There are also buses, ferries, taxis, carriages, bicycles... so you have a lot of options.
If you are nervous about the scooter, I understand. Before you can peel out, you have an area to test in and you must drive around the block. At least that was the case at Oleander Cycles at the Royal Naval Dockyard where we rented ours.
There are 3 requirements:
1. You must be 18 years or older
2. You must wear a helmet
3. You must drive on the left side of the road
If you are from the United States and have never driven abroad, this last one will be a weird thing for you and will take a few miles to adjust to.
If you rent a motor scooter, please be safe. So many tourists go out, drink too much, then get on their scooter and drive on the opposite side of the road than they are used to, on long windy roads that they are not used to and sadly, many accidents occur.
Be safe and have fun zipping around the island :õ)
