Enjoying a drink responsibly can be a pleasant part of your cruise vacation, until you get the bill! Here are 5 ways to get free drinks on your cruise.
Note: No one is claiming all of the below options are the highest quality, just that they are complimentary :)
1. Welcome Drink
Many cruise lines offer you a welcome drink when you first board so don’t rush past the entry way. Stop and enjoy a little bubbly!
2. Art Auctions
Most cruises have many art auctions, sometimes called “Champagne Art Auctions” where everyone present receives a glass of champagne or wine. No purchase is needed. On the Exotic Southern Caribbean cruise there were many of these auctions and also interesting education art talks (about the works that would be later up for auction) that also offered a free glass.
3. Captains Party
There is usually a night where the Captain and crew will be out and about and participating in entertainment. Free drinks are usually available during this event!
4. Loyalty Tier Party
If you are a repeat cruiser you will probably get an invitation to an “exclusive” event including free cocktails.
5. Liquor Tastings
The liquor store on board will often have tastings and educational sessions scheduled (see your daily activity schedule). We enjoyed rum with rum cake samples as well as a really interesting Scotch presentation where we got to try some very costly scotches!
Look For Discounts:
Some cruiselines have “Happy Hour” at various bar locations that offer significant savings. Others have a discounted “drink of the day”. Still others have special promos like a bucket of beer for a set price. Did you know you can buy a bottle of wine at dinner and have the staff keep it on hand for the next night? This is a big savings over purchasing by the glass each night. Some cruiselines offer liquor post-meal like a limoncello or baileys in a souvineer shotglass. This can be a good value!
