When my friends asked if there was anything we especially wanted to eat while we were in Japan, of course I stated 2 of the obvious: Ramen and Sushi! I don't care if that was predictable, it was true.
While they intended to welcome us to Japan with sushi, their favorite restaurant was closed by the time our flight landed, soooo they started us off with Ramen. It was extra comforting as I had been fairly sick (I really think it was bronchitis) for a good part of this trip.
Turns out Fukuoka is pretty famous for Ramen! And it turns out, Ramen actually originated in China, not Japan. Who knew?! You do now!
We started with Gyoza, delightful little dumplings with so much flavor. You'll also notice on the table the spicy bean sprout salad ready for topping the ramen. <3
We couldn't resist adding an egg to our bowls of ramen. I could eat ramen every day. Seriously. I love the colorful toppings and slurping down those noodles and broth. It was a perfect welcome to Fukuoka and I was certainly glad to be with Japanese friends who could help us order and recommend what they love -- and for good reason!
