Why I Canceled My Beauty Subscription Boxes (Ricky's NYC Cult Crushes, Boxy Charm, and Ipsy) and Stopped Unboxing Posts | Journey To A Simpler, More Meaningful Life
No one wants stinky, dirty feet. And no one wants stinky, dirty feet to cause stinky, dirty shoes. But a lot of times the two frolic through the fields hand-in-hand.... foot-in-foot... foot-in-sanuk..
I've had this happen. Look someone told me if you take enough zinc that your feet will never smell. Have you tried it? Let me know. But just saying, if you walk for hours in these shoes in 90-100 degree weather, you can expect some stink. Don't you think so? It stands to reason..
So the question comes up:
How Do I Clean My Sanuks? Can I Put My Sanuk Shoes In The Washer?
Sanuk FAQ has this covered. If they are NOT leather at all, then you can put them in the washing machine. yay!
You can also watch a delightful video showing you How To Wash Your Sanuks!
I tried it, how did it go?!
My Sanuk Tailspins were worn all over Thailand and the Donna Tribals were worn all over California including Yosemite National Park. In other words, they needed a spruce up. (no pun intended. In fact, I don't even know if there are Spruces there...)
I followed these instructions and tossed them in the wash then air dried.
No, they didn't look brand new. But why would they? They aren't brand new. There was still some discoloration and wear marks, the character of use, and the proof of a well-loved, well-worn shoe. But they were fresh, they felt fresh, smelled fresh, and looked cleaner, though not brand new. As I already noted.
It's great that you can freshen up these shoes so easily. Maybe if I had done that sooner after soiling them, they would have come out a little cleaner. But either way, I'm not complaining. I think it's great!

How I got my first pair of Sanuks
Sanuks I own:
I own 3 pair of Sanuk Footwear at the moment. 1 pair I purchased and 2 pair were much later sent to me for PR purposes, to do what I wanted with. I decided to take them traveling also and you'll hear more about that later. I also decided to write a post comparing these three styles and tell you which are my favorite.
First, we have theSanuk Tailspins. These are a moccasin style shoe with a canvas upper and a rubber sole. You will love that the soles ofSanuk Shoes all sport smiley faces. Up. My. Alley. On the back are cute studs.
The footbed is EVA foam with anti microbial additives.
They are incredibly comfortable straight out the gate and have a nice put together look to them.
The Sanuk Yoga Slings are wildly popular. The footbed is literally made of padded yoga-mat. They have a rubber sponge outsole, synthetic, and fabric straps to wrap around your foot/ankles.
These are very comfy, if you do not have any special foot needs. I like the design with the fabric straps and the way they wrap around your foot. The part that goes between your toes occasionally bothers me. Not the way flip flops usually would, it's almost higher up where the separation between your big toe and second toe meet the flat top part of your foot. When this happens, I just reposition and carry on. I have not had any blisters develop or anything like that. And, in fact, these are my current every day sandal. So.. it must not be that bad ;-)
I don't recommend these on a rainy day... I personally find that when the footbed gets wet, they can be quite slippery.
I loved the tribal pattern of these Donna style Sidewalk Surfers. I went with the Olive tone as those shades are my jam! (PS, do you note the similar colors to my Coral Tailspins in here?)
These are slip on shoes with fabric upper and rubber soles. The edges are meant to fray. There are triangular elastic insets for a comfortable fit and "put on" of the shoe, as well as ventilating ports at the sides down by the sole. The footbed is also a molded EVA footbed with antimicrobial additive.
When you first get these, they may feel snug. Just give them a good ol' stretch as you wear them around and they will fit nicely! I love the fun pattern of these and especially when I have a plainer outfit on, I love to funk it up with some bright, fun, printed shoes like these!
These aren't meant, by any means, to be hiking shoes. But... I did actually hike Glacier Point at Yosemite National Park in California when wearing these. haha! TRUE STORY!!!
So.. Which are my favorite?!
Before visiting Thailand for the first time, I was in a panic about footwear. I spent hours trying to research what type of footwear would be best for my needs. What would balance with the hot weather of Thailand and the colder weather of other destinations I would visit on the same trip. What would allow me to do water activities (that never ended up happening thanks to bronchitis.. aint no body got time for that -_-)
I felt pretty good about the Teva sandals I picked up. They were the lease obtrusive in the family of sport sandals that I saw, and I felt not horrible about wearing them at the beach as well as with nicer clothes, skirts, and so on. (There are more and more styles that are skillfully blending cuteness with awesome function)
I also picked up a pair ofSpenco Siesta Suedes in Black. Awesome shoe with orthotic arch support, which I mainly had purchased for using in Japan.
At the last minute, on an impulse, I ordered a pair ofSanuk shoes. Tailspin was the model - a super comfortable moccasin style shoe with studs down the back and an on-point coral color. At the time they ran me around $20 on sale and it was the best $20 I had spent. Seriously.
Why I picked Sanuk?
There are certain things we all hope for every summer... One of the first things is beautiful, sunny weather to enjoy, amiright?
You're probably itching to get outside, out of the office, out of school, even out of bed (shocking, compared to winter mornings). There are places to go, people to see, things to do, and photos to capture so you can lock in those memories for yourself and share the feelings behind them with anyone who sees your photos later.
Here are 4 things I am loving this summer:
That extra boost of vitamin D every day really perks me up, how about you!?
Hockey lovers everywhere enjoyed a lively games during the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals.
Were you one of them?
Congrats to the Pittsburgh Penguins on their Stanley Cup victory last night which came exactly 7 years to the date from their last trophy hoisting!!
Enjoy some time off, Pens, and we're all looking forward to next season! ;-)
