You know those Fridays when you're worn out from the entire week and you finally make it back home and the thought of making *anything* to eat for dinner feels like an anvil dropping on you ACME style? Well, yesterday was that day for me. I wanted to make something to eat, but it just wasn't going to happen. So I decided to pick up "TueGo" from Ruby Tuesdays...
The long & the short of it
Usually when we eat out we try to go somewhere interesting, (i.e. Not a chain) but Ruby Tuesday has been faithfully sending me coupons in the mail every week for as long as I can remember. And there are some good deals. Usually BOGO 50% off, $8 off 2 adult entrees, or $5 off $15. I decided to aim for the last one. I never ordered TueGo before. It's simple, though. Create your account on the Ruby Tuesday website and select your location. View the menu and add the food you're hungry for.
We decided to go for burgers because apparently there is some burger craze going on over there. ($6.99 burgers and unlimited fries!) Of course we both ended up picking an $8.99 burger that had bbq and onion rings on it. I placed my order and it showed a pick up time of 20 minutes later - 5:43. I was impressed with myself when I rolled in at 5:43 and decided to pull up the window in Safari to show them if need be. It was then, and only then, that I realized I hadn't actually completed the order. DUH. There was one more button to push to actually complete the order. GAH!!! I just assumed that since it had a pick up time, I had completed the order. Never assume people! So I went in and you pick this order up at the bar. Now I had to wait a whole additional 20 minutes for the food to get ready. Mind you, the place is hopping at this time. Tables are full, and there are $2 drafts at the bar from 4-6pm so.... yeah. It was taking the bartender a while to actually ring up my order and I was nervous because I had given her my Chase Freedom card (5% cash back on restaurants this quarter = 5% to transfer to Chase Sapphire to airline miles ;)). At one point my card disappeared out of sight and I saw her blonde pony tail bobbing all around - filling up a glass of water, pouring a beer, going to the back, coming back out, going to the back again. I was like what is going on?!?!! Finally she emerges and told me that because there was a burger promotion going on, i couldn't use the coupon when ordering burgers. Garbage! :( BUUUUT! The manager graciously "took care of" one of the burgers for me, and the girl handed back my coupon for another day. I was like... say what?! It was an awesome unexpected kindness and it made up for having to sit there for longer due to my ordering mishap. When the food came out I scurried off to my car to drive the few minutes home and chow down. The Burger
The burger was pretty good. I enjoyed the brioche bun. The burger was a hearty size. I ordered it well done and it was definitely well done. Next time I might opt for medium well. The sad thing about this burger was the onion ring situation. It was like one onion ring cut in half and all smashed down. Usually these types of burgers will have a few onion rings impressively stacked for a real "Wow" factor. The measly onion ring got lost. So sad.
The french fries were okay. Even though I live literally 3 minutes away, when i got home and started eating them, they weren't really even warm. They were cool and kind soggy. Meh. The Sum-Up
Over all it was a good experience, though. Next time I would make sure i actually *complete* the online order before I go to pick up an imaginary order. The burger I would give a 7/10. The graciousness on the manager's part was a 10. And that bartender worked so hard, she gets a 10 too! Even though she made me nervous with that card. I later realized she couldn't ring it up until the manager decided how to handle it, and she didn't want to just leave the card lying in plain view when she had to walk away in the interim. That's probably why she held onto it, the food slip, and the coupon, as she ran around.
