Everytime you travel you realize you could have packed less, packed better, streamlined some process, or been more organized. It’s a way of constantly assessing and improving yourself and your practices. I actually quite like this about travel. This is even more true when you travel for long periods of time in only carry on bags.
I am trying to figure out the best way to travel with your makeup and related items and here are some things I have tried so far:
Most of us have or have seen a bag like this before. It closes with Velcro or a zipper and when you open it there is a little hanger at the top so you can hang it in the bathroom and unzip whichever compartment you need at the time.

Cons of the Hanging Toiletry Bag:
This is the system I am testing on my next big trip. In onelong packing cube I am placing a few different smaller pouches. One will have brushes. One has my foundation, contour and blush. One has shadows and liners. You get the idea. In theory if this works, I will get to memorize which pouch has which type of makeup item that I need and they will stay neat and well organized all within the space of the one long narrow packing cube. I can also easily pull this one cube out of luggage and take it to the bathroom at a Priority Pass lounge, for instance, to refresh!
I will report back how this worked after my upcoming travels!
The main advantage that I see is that everything can be organized in potentially a more compact way than just having one large makeup bag and tossing everything in. A disadvantage is that it could be cumbersome to have to open multiple pouches especially if you have a small space like an airport bathroom that you want to refresh in.
This makeup pouch is actually really cool and I took it with me to Europe and Asia. I liked that you could toss all your makeup in there and pull the string to cinch it closed into a pouch. When you arrive somewhere you just uncinch it and you have all your items clearly visible on the inside surface of the bag.

Testing The Away Luggage 100 Day Trial Full Refund Guarantee: An Unintentional Customer Service Review
As you'll recall, I was pretty stoked that ethical and sustainable Canadian fashion brand encircled was having great discounts on Black Friday (here) & Cyber Monday (here). (Learn a little bit about why I have been so interested in the brand encircled in my post here).
I have now received all of my orders and I want to give you a quick review of each encircled item, including 2 items I bought earlier this year from encircled.
Most people are not especially interested in modest swimwear, but if you are you know how difficult it can be to track down. Even a one piece is often cut in multiple ways that can make it quite showy.
I have lovedswim skirts as an option, but it can be annoying how the flowy skirt portion floats up to the surface of the water and besides, some of the skirted parts aren't even long enough to cover anything, but are more of a decoration!
If you want the convenience of two pieces with modesty and functionality I recommend the swim short... or swim pant? or swim Capri?
I wasn't sure how this would go so I ordered 3 options from Amazon that had free returns:
I found all three to be suitable options (pun intended)... :p
But I decided I liked the weight of the material best on the two from Private Island Hawaii Brand.
It took me a while of deliberating. But since I plan to wear these with tankinis that adjust to swim dress length, I decided I liked the longer length ones. These also give me the option to easily go from pool and beach to shopping, traveling, touring, eating, etc without totally screaming "Hey Y'all, I'm in swimwear!"
If you're looking for a modest, comfortable, and versatile swimwear option I think this style is a great bet!
Over the past couple years I have paired down my wardrobe considerably. I have probably passed on (donated, given to friends, used for DIY projects, etc) about 90% of what I originally had. It's a great feeling! Still, sometimes you want to add a couple pieces to keep things fresh.
In comes So Perla Grab bags!
Okay, so i was first introduced to So Perla a couple years ago when I saw them on the deal site Zulily. They had these adorable snap cardigans that actually looked flattering on someone petite and I loved the longer length. I couldn't make up my mind and the sale ended, but the name stuck with me. The next time they showed up on Zulily I went full steam ahead and purchased the cardigans in a bunch of colors. I wanted to get rid of my selection of mismatched cardis that were misshapen and didn't fit me right anyway. It was one of the best clothing purchases I have *ever* made. I wear these almost daily. Seriously. They were great to take traveling because I could wear them over my long sleeved UA coldgear shirt for cool London days, or my UA Victory tanks for Thai evenings.
What is a Grab Bag from So Perla?
ANYwho.... ever since falling in love with them, I have stalked the @soperla instagram, website, and zulily sales. I like to put it this way: 99% of what they sell is 100% my style! The only problem is that it is hard to choose.
So I decided to order 2 of their Grab Bags. The grab bags come with 3 shirts and cost just $14.99. Incredible deal! The shirts will be in the size you selected, but they are a surprise! I figured even if I only liked one shirt from each bag it would still be a great deal!
What Came In My So Perla Grab Bag Order?
My order really surprised me.
1. Summery yellow sheer overlay shirt with lace detail
2. Turquoise crochet v neck and hemline with tan boho shirt
3. Green Aztec kimono type cardigan
4. Dusty Pink button shirt with white polka dots
5. Vintage looking super soft white long sleeves flouncy shirt
6. Grayish-taupish long sleeves vintage flowery shirt with criss cross neckline
These are not official titles (LOL, terrible describer of clothes).
What did I think of the tops?
I was SO thrilled with this order!!
The dusty pink polka dot shirt isn't good for my skin/hair tones and wasn't totally my style. I tried it on but I know I just won't reach for it, so I put it in my giveaway bin so I can pass it on to someone who will *love* it! Cute, just not me!
The rest of the items I really like. I've worn the soft longsleeved vintage flower shirts and the green Aztec cardigan the most. It's just now warming up so I can wear the yellow top more. The turquoise one I love, it looks so beachy and boho, but I'm not sure how often I will get to wear it on the day-to-day. We'll see!!
Verdict on So Perla's Grab Bags (and So Perla in general!)
I definitely recommend you check out So Perla whether on their website or Zulily. Don't be afraid of the grab bags; embrace the grab bags!
If you do check them out on Zulily and you are new to Zulily, I'd love it if you would sign up here to support my so perla addiction! :p
