If you're looking to add a long-sleeved basic to your capsule wardrobe that is comfortable enough to wear on the daily, yet elevated enough for work or dressing up then Encircled's Fair Long Sleeve may be right for you.
The super soft plant-based Modal gives it a slight sheen that givesThe Fair Long Sleeve the upper hand over a basic cotton long sleeve tee. This is a great 3-4 season piece because the material is lightweight enough for spring and summer (depending where you live of course) and the bit of stretch it has makes it very easy to pull over a base layer or turtle neck for added warmth.
Being really used to wearing crew necks all the time, I was a bit hesitant to order The Fair Long Sleeve as it has a v-neckline. I hate having to constantly reposition a top because the neckline is too low. And if I alway have to wear a cami underneath, it feels like less of a convenient basic and more of a hassle some days. I am happy to report that The Fair Long Sleeve truly does have a "flattering, modest v-neckline" as encircled describes it. If it was about 3/4-1" higher I would be completely head-over-heels. To suit the masses, however, this is probably a happy medium.
The Fair Long Sleeve has a front seam down the center and nice detailing on the back. I ordered the XS and it was the right choice. To wear as-is it could probably be tapered in a little more to be most flattering on a very petite person, however it's definitely not overly billowy. I just like things a tad more fitted. Having that extra bit of fabric does give you some fun options, though. You can do a great French tuck, various knotting techniques, and it looks fantastic with a slim leather belt.
I haven't seen it recommended officially, but I would definitely be comfortable wearing The Fair Long Sleeve backwards. The slight v and center seam work great down the back and the design detail of the back yoke actually looks great in front in my opinion. Not every shirt can be work in both directions and look good. But I think it's definitely an option with The Fair Long Sleeve!
I initially picked this up in the lovely forest green color hoping it would be perfect with Bali Elf Emerald Flats. The forest green color isn't as saturated as the shoes, but both are still beautiful colors.
At the moment, The Fair Long Sleeve is available in 7 colors. You can't go wrong with black, but check your closet to see which fun color could coordinate with the majority of your wardrobe. Basic colors like black and gray tend to stick around, but the fun colors can be almost "limited edition" when it comes to small sustainable slow fashion brands like encircled. So if you see a color you love in a design you know you will wear a lot, then snag it while you can.
Since The Fair Long Sleeve is such a great design, encircled has created The Fair Collection. expanding the line to include The Fair Shortsleeved and the Fair Sleeveless as well. You can save $56 when you build the Fair Collection Kit for your Capsule Wardrobe by using code COOLTOBEFAIR at checkout here. Happy capsule wardrobe gap-filling!
During plastic-free July, I shared some great crowd funding campaigns to reduce plastic waste.
One of those campaigns was Last Swab.
What Is Last Swab?
Last Swab is a low waste swap for cotton swabs.
It's essentially a reusable cotton swab that can be washed and comes with a protective case.
What Is Last Swab Made Of?
Last Swab Review
Last Swab comes in two styles: Basic and Beauty. If you are a careful user of cotton swabs to clean your ears... then you are looking for the Basic edition. It looks very similar to a traditional cotton swab, only the ends are a sturdy, yet flexible material with lots of little bumps/bubbles to create texture for water or wax to stick to.
If you use cotton swabs to perfect your make-up look then the beauty edition is for you. It has a smooth surface on either end, but with two different shapes - one rounded like a traditional cotton swab and the other with a slight point for more precise work. It also has a firm, yet flexible nature, but the finish on it is different and almost feels slightly tacky to me. Tacky as in texture, not quality.
The carrying case has a designated spot for your Last Swab to latch in. It swivels open and lightly snaps shut. It's ergonomically designed with a notch for your thumb and index finger to easily push it open. There is also a loop at the opposite end and I suppose you could use this to hang it on a hook in your cabinet if you had one or even attach it to something with a carabiner if you needed to for some reason?
You will probably still need to keep some cotton swabs on hand for guests or for any medical applications. Just try to go with biodegradable options like these bamboo handled cotton swabs.
Everytime you travel you realize you could have packed less, packed better, streamlined some process, or been more organized. It’s a way of constantly assessing and improving yourself and your practices. I actually quite like this about travel. This is even more true when you travel for long periods of time in only carry on bags.
I am trying to figure out the best way to travel with your makeup and related items and here are some things I have tried so far:
Most of us have or have seen a bag like this before. It closes with Velcro or a zipper and when you open it there is a little hanger at the top so you can hang it in the bathroom and unzip whichever compartment you need at the time.
Pros of the Hanging Toiletry Bag:
Cons of the Hanging Toiletry Bag:
This is the system I am testing on my next big trip. In onelong packing cube I am placing a few different smaller pouches. One will have brushes. One has my foundation, contour and blush. One has shadows and liners. You get the idea. In theory if this works, I will get to memorize which pouch has which type of makeup item that I need and they will stay neat and well organized all within the space of the one long narrow packing cube. I can also easily pull this one cube out of luggage and take it to the bathroom at a Priority Pass lounge, for instance, to refresh!
I will report back how this worked after my upcoming travels!
The main advantage that I see is that everything can be organized in potentially a more compact way than just having one large makeup bag and tossing everything in. A disadvantage is that it could be cumbersome to have to open multiple pouches especially if you have a small space like an airport bathroom that you want to refresh in.
This makeup pouch is actually really cool and I took it with me to Europe and Asia. I liked that you could toss all your makeup in there and pull the string to cinch it closed into a pouch. When you arrive somewhere you just uncinch it and you have all your items clearly visible on the inside surface of the bag.

Testing The Away Luggage 100 Day Trial Full Refund Guarantee: An Unintentional Customer Service Review
As you'll recall, I was pretty stoked that ethical and sustainable Canadian fashion brand encircled was having great discounts on Black Friday (here) & Cyber Monday (here). (Learn a little bit about why I have been so interested in the brand encircled in my post here).
I have now received all of my orders and I want to give you a quick review of each encircled item, including 2 items I bought earlier this year from encircled.
encircled The Wanderer Sleeveless Tee Review
I ordered the Wanderer Sleeveless T before a trip this summer which entailed about 6 weeks of travel over 3 continents in carry on only luggage. I wore this top *all the time* as it was super comfortable and looked great with casual looks (jeans, shorts) as well as dressy looks (a skirt & nice sandals). I am a fan of the length and the T styles well as is or cinched at the waste with a belt to add some more shape/variety when you're wearingthis T again and again. I love it! One thing I would adjust: the arm holes being too big for my personal taste. I have to wear a cami under this t for my own comfort and preference. I ordered a medium, but next time I will order at least a size small for a bit of a better fit on me.
encircled The Everyday Twist Top Review
Okay so I was tossed up between getting the infamous Chrysalis Cardi that started it all or The Everyday Twist Top. I went back and forth and back and forth and finally I decided to first try the Everyday Twist Top. Why? Well.. I wear cardigans literally every day of my life. EVERY DAY! It's part of my wardrobe uniform whether layered over a tank or tee for summer evenings or daytime when the aircon is blasting or over base layers in winter. Cardigans are a staple for me. So it made sense for me to invest in a superhero cardigan that would do some wild multitasking in my closet. (The Everyday Twist Top functions as a normal cardigan when you're feeling lazy or straightforward, but also has many other options!) I went with the beautiful Plum Purple and was planning on ordering size Small but the only size available at the time was XS so I decided to take a chance. As it happens, this is the perfect size for me. I'm sooo glad only the XS was in stock or I may not have been so in love!
As soon as I took it out of the box I started playing with it. I know you're supposed to be able to wear this 5 ways, but if your creativity is flowing you can come up with waaaay more options. I spent way too long and got way too excited testing them out in front of the mirror before stopping to write this review. Well. no, I take that back. I didn't spend too long or get too excited. I think this is really how you should feel about an item you add to your wardrobe. If you're not that excited about a piece of clothing then maybe it's not the right purchase. *shrug* At any rate, I am beyond excited about this top (not to mention the ethics behind it) and all the fun we will have together. It will definitely come traveling with me, I will definitely be sharing some more ways to wear it, and I would definitely buy other colors that work in my wardrobe color palette!
encircled The Evolve Top Review
I waited forthe Deep Indigo Modal Evolve Top and it was definitely worth the wait! The color is absolutely beautiful and I can tell this top is going to get a lot of wear as it suits my style and lifestyle. I am petite and I ordered XS and that was definitely the right choice for me. I love howthis top looks on both frontwards and backwards. I love having a high neckline with a drapey back silhouette from time to time. I think that silhouette on your back can look so classy and elegant. I do this with shirts I already have sometimes, but it looks even better with theEvolve Top because it was designed with this in mind as a style option. I can tell I am going to love wearing this top for casual and dress and adjusting the sleeve length and styles or use it as a layering piece depending on my mood, the weather, or the event. I would definitely consider adding other colors of this design in the future.
encircled The Revolve Dress Review
I ordered The Revolve Dress in Bordeaux Red (really pretty color) and, ironically, I will probably never wear it as a dress. :) For me, the dress is a little too clingy at the back for me to be likely to wear it as a dress unless I had a long cardigan over it. That's just my personal preference and style. However, what I love about it is that I can get wear out of it as a top or a tunic! I love to wear long shirts and I found the fit of The Revolve Dress to look so flattering on my body type worn as a tunic over jeans. I can also see wearing it as a top with skirts or even wearing it in it's dress state with a pleated skirt over top, for example. I tried it on as a tunic and layered under the Everyday Twist Top and that would make a good combination for cold days where I live. I haven't yet tried the Essential Long Sleeve Top, but I like that the Revolve Dress can essentially be worn as a long sleeved basic with added options such as the versatility of varying lengths and of having the drape in the front or in the back! I would definitely pack this for travel!
encircled The Reversible Pencil Skirt Review
I am a girl who loves dressing up. Don't get me wrong, I love being casual and comfy too. But there are many times when I will choose to wear a dress or a skirt even if the occasion doesn't require it. Still, as I try to streamline my wardrobe to more evergreen basics, The Reversible Pencil Skirt really caught my eye. A Classic pencil skirt that is two sided. That means 2 skirts in one - hooray!
The skirt is incredibly comfortable to wear, just... sooo comfortable. It is definitely a form fitting skirt. For me, I like things to be fitted, but not too snug. I also like skirts to hit the knee. I ordered a medium in an effort to have a skirt that wasn't overly tight and would hit the knee. The skirt is almost perfect! It does hit the knee, but as I walk it tends to ride up above the knee a bit. As I said, this is definitely a form fitting skirt so some may prefer to size up. I am glad I went with a size medium. As I find it a bit snug in the back, I strategically wear longline tops with it like the wanderer sleeveless tee which I add a belt to and then it makes a great outfit for me!
Tip: You can also wear The Reversible Pencil Skirt as an infinity scarf (x 2 colors) or potentially as a strapless top (x 2 colors) so you can actually have 6 options in one with this piece which is awesome!
encircled The Transform Leg Warmers II
I grabbed a pair of The Transform Leg Warmers II last minute during the amazing Cyber Monday sale this year and I am so glad I did! I spend a lot of time at a desk and I tend to get really cold while I am working. These offer the perfect amount of additional warmth without making me feel too hot or too bundled when I'm inside. Something about them just makes me feel so cozy and chic. I love that they are reversible too! When I'm not in the home office I can spend a lot of time outside and these will be great for layering. I love that these leg warmers are a creative use of fabric leftovers from other designs, making the best use of the materials you have! The length of them is also great because they can pull up well past your knee so they don't fall down, or you can push them down to any length you like for really nice looking rouching!

Most people are not especially interested in modest swimwear, but if you are you know how difficult it can be to track down. Even a one piece is often cut in multiple ways that can make it quite showy.
I have lovedswim skirts as an option, but it can be annoying how the flowy skirt portion floats up to the surface of the water and besides, some of the skirted parts aren't even long enough to cover anything, but are more of a decoration!
If you want the convenience of two pieces with modesty and functionality I recommend the swim short... or swim pant? or swim Capri?
I wasn't sure how this would go so I ordered 3 options from Amazon that had free returns:
I found all three to be suitable options (pun intended)... :p
But I decided I liked the weight of the material best on the two from Private Island Hawaii Brand.
It took me a while of deliberating. But since I plan to wear these with tankinis that adjust to swim dress length, I decided I liked the longer length ones. These also give me the option to easily go from pool and beach to shopping, traveling, touring, eating, etc without totally screaming "Hey Y'all, I'm in swimwear!"
If you're looking for a modest, comfortable, and versatile swimwear option I think this style is a great bet!
Over the past couple years I have paired down my wardrobe considerably. I have probably passed on (donated, given to friends, used for DIY projects, etc) about 90% of what I originally had. It's a great feeling! Still, sometimes you want to add a couple pieces to keep things fresh.
In comes So Perla Grab bags!
Okay, so i was first introduced to So Perla a couple years ago when I saw them on the deal site Zulily. They had these adorable snap cardigans that actually looked flattering on someone petite and I loved the longer length. I couldn't make up my mind and the sale ended, but the name stuck with me. The next time they showed up on Zulily I went full steam ahead and purchased the cardigans in a bunch of colors. I wanted to get rid of my selection of mismatched cardis that were misshapen and didn't fit me right anyway. It was one of the best clothing purchases I have *ever* made. I wear these almost daily. Seriously. They were great to take traveling because I could wear them over my long sleeved UA coldgear shirt for cool London days, or my UA Victory tanks for Thai evenings.
What is a Grab Bag from So Perla?
ANYwho.... ever since falling in love with them, I have stalked the @soperla instagram, website, and zulily sales. I like to put it this way: 99% of what they sell is 100% my style! The only problem is that it is hard to choose.
So I decided to order 2 of their Grab Bags. The grab bags come with 3 shirts and cost just $14.99. Incredible deal! The shirts will be in the size you selected, but they are a surprise! I figured even if I only liked one shirt from each bag it would still be a great deal!
What Came In My So Perla Grab Bag Order?
My order really surprised me.
1. Summery yellow sheer overlay shirt with lace detail
2. Turquoise crochet v neck and hemline with tan boho shirt
3. Green Aztec kimono type cardigan
4. Dusty Pink button shirt with white polka dots
5. Vintage looking super soft white long sleeves flouncy shirt
6. Grayish-taupish long sleeves vintage flowery shirt with criss cross neckline
These are not official titles (LOL, terrible describer of clothes).
What did I think of the tops?
I was SO thrilled with this order!!
The dusty pink polka dot shirt isn't good for my skin/hair tones and wasn't totally my style. I tried it on but I know I just won't reach for it, so I put it in my giveaway bin so I can pass it on to someone who will *love* it! Cute, just not me!
The rest of the items I really like. I've worn the soft longsleeved vintage flower shirts and the green Aztec cardigan the most. It's just now warming up so I can wear the yellow top more. The turquoise one I love, it looks so beachy and boho, but I'm not sure how often I will get to wear it on the day-to-day. We'll see!!
Verdict on So Perla's Grab Bags (and So Perla in general!)
I definitely recommend you check out So Perla whether on their website or Zulily. Don't be afraid of the grab bags; embrace the grab bags!
If you do check them out on Zulily and you are new to Zulily, I'd love it if you would sign up here to support my so perla addiction! :p
