A few years back I had a complex migraine. Have you heard of it? It's not just a bad headache. It affects you much the way a stroke does. In fact, they were concerned I had a stroke. Fortunately, I did not. And Fortunately when you have a complex migraine the stroke-like symptoms usually revert unlike with a true stroke. I was trying to speak, but I couldn't get the words in my brain to come out of my mouth. Scary stuff. I never wanted it to happen again. So when my neurologist prescribed COQ10 as a non-rx migraine preventative, I was game to try it. That was about 4 years ago. When I take this consistently, I feel excellent. Combined with proper rest and hydration, I rarely get headaches now compared to daily headaches. The key is to keep taking it!
CoQ10 is an antioxidant which increases your energy and is great for your health. It is typically present in the mitochondria of your cells. This is where your cells develop energy. Which is why mitochondria is called the powerhouse of the cell.
According to the national institute of health, coq 10 has been widely used to treat:
- neuromuscular diseases
- Alzheimer's disease
- Parkinson's disease
- Progressive supranuclear palsy
- Autosomal Recessive Cerebellar ataxias
- Huntington's disease
- ALS - amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
HUGE TIP: In most cases coq10 is not covered by your insurance, however if your doctor prescribes it, they can fill out a medical necessity for this supplement like mine has and you can purchase it from an account like an FSA account.
I received a bottle for free from OptimalXT to test and review. This COq10 has 100 per capsule. This is a common dose. The bottle is well sealed with plastic on the outside as well as a paper/foil seal and a cotton puff. I was surprised they came in capsule form as the other brands I have tried have all been soft gels. Nonetheless, the capsules are slender and easy to swallow.
Always check with your doctor when you start taking new supplements to make sure it is safe with your current supplements and prescriptions!
I hope the research and my personal opinion have been informative and beneficial to you. :o)
