#LakeErieLove Weekend: Day 3 Perry's Family Fun Center

If you're looking for some family-friendly activities, Perry's Cave & Family Fun Center surely has something for you!

Perry's Cave

Picture
Perry's Cave tour is about 20 minutes long and will take you 52 feet below the island's surface to a 208'x165' limestone cave discovered in 1813 during the battle of Lake Erie. You will learn what stalactites and stalagmites are and you will be surprised at the near 50 degree F temperature - which is naturally maintained no matter what time of year it is. There's actually a lake inside this cave and you'll find out how the water in it is fresh and good for drinking. The tour guides we had were young and trying hard to be energetic and cracking jokes. LAUGH AT THE JOKES, PEOPLE! (We had a somewhat blasé group) I thought they did great and they were happy to answer questions!

While this isn't really something I would repeat on a future visit, I did find it fascinating and I would go again if I was with a group of people who had never been and wanted to go.

Which of these shows stalactites and which stalagmites? Do you know?!

Side Note:
To enter this cave you do have to go down some narrow stairs and there are times you will need to duck and watch your step on slippery surfaces. That being said, there were people of all ages, little kids to older ones who had no trouble maneuvering around and enjoying the tour, but just a heads up.

Butterfly House

Picture
The Butterfly House was my favorite of Perry's attractions. The 4,000 sqft home of over 50 butterfly varieties from around the world had me fascinated. The flowers and butterflies worked together to make stunning photos and such an enjoyable experience. You could take a few minutes in here, see some show stoppers and then leave. Or you can take your time. See how many varieties you can find. See what great pictures you can capture of them. Watch them do their thing and flutter about. I really enjoyed it. Actually some of my photos from the Butterfly House are available on Shutterstock, so I'd love it if you checked them out! :o)

War of 18 Holes (Mini Golf)

Picture

The War of 18 Holes was a simple, yet well maintained mini golf course that was pretty fun to play. It's nothing extravagant, but it was a solid good time. The landscaping was pretty and each hole had a little fun fact on it's post.

Gemstone Mining

Here you can pan for real gemstones and fossils. You can also purchase Geodes and have them cut on site. This would be interesting because geodes are fascinating inside, and when you purchase one whole, you have no clue what the inside looks like. So it would be a fun surprise! We did not do these activities.

Fort aMaze'n

Fort aMaze'n is a giant, life-sized maze challenge. Family or friends can watch from an observation tower and muse at your poor choices and how close you are to the exit when you feel like you're never going to make it out. *chuckle* Sounds mean! But really, these can be very fun, although we did not do this activity on this occasion.

Rock Wall

The rock wall is 25-ft tall with 4 sides that have varying levels of difficulty. Staff is there to make sure you are in the harness properly and assist you. The rock wall was closed on the day we visited.

Antique Car Museum

The Antique Car Museum is a *FREE* attraction! Check out some of the oldest automobiles on the island including rare model T's! Unfortunately, we ran out of time to see this exhibit.

Prices:

Prices for these attractions vary. Again, you have a number of choices.

Any 3 attractions:

Adults:        $19
Age 6-12:  $11

All Attractions:

Adults:       $26
Age 6-12  $18

Or you can purchase admission to any of the activities individually as well. Clearly, the best deal is to bundle them, but if you just want to see/do one thing then maybe a single admission is the best choice for you.

Pro Tip:

Go early! We didn't realize that some activities close by 6pm and even the Tour Train starts its last round around 5pm. So if you want to leisurely enjoy the train and all of these activities, make sure you allow plenty of time. :o)

Thanks so much to Lake Erie Shores & Islands for providing 3 attraction combo passes at Perry's!
All opinions expressed in this post are exclusively my own! :o) Keepin' it real!
