After visiting the Village Bakery & Cafe for a breakfast of champions, we sauntered over to the Depot to investigate the Tour Train. A train was already loading to leave at the time, and we weren't sure if we were ready to hop on it or not, which meant we would have to wait for a subsequent train. (Obviously) We were still hungry for "real food" so we decided to opt for a later train and do some walking around the main town area and find something to eat before we got on the train to see the island, do some wineries, and Perry's activities. Put-in-Bay Brewery
FoodWhen you're at a brewery, and they have Beer Cheese Soup on the menu... how can you not try it? Just saying.. "Made with a blend of aged cheddars and our own Bourbon Stout, garnished with shredded cheese, crispy bacon and toasted bread points." Come on, guys, Beer, Cheese, Bacon.. those are some of the greatest things ever, period. All in one bowl! YUM! They also have Guiness Onion Soup for those of you who are fans of the onion soup. ;) And because we like to be "healthy" *snickers* we added a side salad with the house-made ranch. Always go for the house-made dressings people. Always. The salad was beautiful with a mix of greens and I didn't find any scummy lettuce in there. Don't you hate when that happens? Glad it didn't here.. I also quite liked the way they had the toppings separated on the side - cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons, onions.. This way the onion/tomato-haters don't have to pick them off and the onion/tomato-lovers still get their goodies! I couldn't leave Erie's Shores and Islands without trying Lake Erie Perch! So a Perch sandwich it was! "Crispy battered Lake Erie Perch on a toasted egg bun. Served with our homemade tartar sauce" Delightfully crispy, hot and fresh, and who needs tartar sauce anyway?! Definitely not me, since I don't like it, but even if I did... I wouldn't need it for this fish. BeerPut-in-Bay Brewery has 7 of their own beers in addition to all of the other beers and ciders they serve. You can get flights of beer in order to try some out and see what you like! I tried the following 4:
Sometimes when you get a flight of beer at a brewery, there are some that you distinctly do not care for. At the end, you may have even wished you just had ordered one glass of your favorite, because all the others weren't up your alley. But how do you know which is your favorite until you try them all, right?! I love the experimenting, tasting, comparing, etc. I think it's a fun adventure. And at Put-in-Bay Brewery, I was SO pleasantly surprised that all of the beers I tried were good. Like.. really and truly delightful. Every single one of them! It's easy to see why the Summer Brew is so popular- a light, refreshing, easy-to-drink option for the masses. The Watermelon Wheat was so intriguing to me that it might be my favorite. The watermelon aroma was incredible and juicy. Summer in a glass! Went with the Pass Our Bourbon Stout because I felt like it was a way to try two-in-one.. sort of. It's built off the Oatmeal Stout, and adds the wonderful element of Kentucky Bourbon. I'm thinking this would make one stellar beer float! What do you think? Finally the PIBBC Christmas Ale: The glass rim was lined with sugar and spice and everything nice. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this ale. And in the fall, even more so with those cinnamon-y vibes. My only regret...The atmosphere, food, and beer were excellent here. You *must* visit when you come to Put-in-Bay. This establishment was definitely a highlight for me and I would say the owners are really doing things right here. Best wishes to them and their continued success! My only regret is not trying their distilled items. A mojito was calling my name, but so was the Tour Train, so... maybe next time! Pro TIP:Check the Visitor's Center when you get on the island. I'm pretty sure the Brewery had a card there with a coupon for a discount on a Pizza! ;-) Connect with Put-in-Bay Brewery:Need Help Planning Your Trip To Lake Erie Shores & Islands?
