How To Clean Teva Sandals + Wiivv Fit My Foot Custom Sandals End of Season Footwear Maintenance9/16/2021
Maybe it’s just me, but I think shoe care is a little overlooked, don’t you? Footwear is really important as it protects our feet and literally supports our entire body! Yet for some reason you don’t really hear a lot of people talking about maintaining their shoes. In simplifying my wardrobe and investing in better quality pieces, I am learning the art of caring for clothing and footwear in a more thoughtful way. I decided to get started with a couple of sandals I didn’t think I could mess up!
The few times I have worn these Tevas, they have managed to collect a gross amount of gunk in the grooves of the footbed. Yuck. And in the maaaaaannnny times that I have work my Wiivvs (Now Fit My Foot) custom orthotic sandals, I noted that lately they were kind of starting to … smell? Ick. Between the material, it being summer, and wearing them almost daily it was bound to happen.
Cleaning Teva Sandals
Cleaning the Tevas was simple. I put them in my bathroom sink and got them wet. Then I just used a mild, natural soap and a little scrub brush to get in all the grooves. After I rinsed them of I dried them with a microfiber towel. Good as new!
Cleaning Wiivv (FitMyFoot) Custom Sandals
Cleaning my Wiivv (FitMyFoot) Sandals was similar. I went ahead and wet them, added the soap, lightly scrubbed, rinsed off and dried. As I was drying the straps, though, I noticed these gross little crumbs. I forgot to scrub underneath the strap where quite a build up of sweat (i assume) had soaked in. So I sudsed up again and got it cleaned really food and now they are nice and fresh again! Hooray!
This is the kind of maintenance task that I tend to put off, but in all honesty it only took about 20 minutes start to finish including extra time to snap some pics, and now I actually want to wear the sandals again whereas before I was passing over them because they were in a semi-gross state. Reframing tasks like this as a way to unwind, a way to care for the belongings you have and make them last, rather than just another chore is so beneficial. It actually becomes, dare I say… enjoyable!
I hope you’ll give it a try with some of your shoes that need a little TLC. My next shoe care project will be my Birkenstock’s. The cork needs re-sealed and the footbed needs a scrub down! Stay tuned for how to clean your Birkenstock’s footbed!!

As you can see the Pure Cordless vacuum looks more like a slim “regular” vacuum, compared to most of the cordless stick vacuums currently out which hold most of their weight at the handle. I personally do not understand that design trend and find them to be awkward to use, resulting in tired and sore arms/wrists. Not to mention how easily they topple over if not propped up carefully enough. I started looking into different styles of shorts - linen shorts, chino shorts, paper-bag shorts. You can tell the design process was full of thought and the construction from the stitching inside through to the removable belt is really well done. I chose black because it works best with the rest of my wardrobe. The length is perfect for my preference, allowing me to wear these high waisted paper bag shorts and still maintain coverage or I can wear them a little lower on my hips if I want to! The slight taper provides shape and structure to these paper bag shorts.
Are paper bag shorts hard to style? Hmm. Well, I can see how they might be challenging to style. The Paper bag waist draws attention and adds a little bulk to your front. I prefer the look of something fitted and more plain underneath since these shorts have that extra volume and design detail and I’m all about that rule of volume. (Something fitted up top with something flowy or voluminous at the bottom orrrr fitted bottoms with something flowy or voluminous up top) These paperbag shorts are undeniably comfy, ethically made, and allow you to look polished and high end with ease. Swap the enclosed belt for a skinny leather belt with some gold hardware to elevate these paper bag shorts some more and dress up your paper bag shorts outfit! I’m really happy with this purchase. I will still be looking to add some chino shorts for next year though. I think chino shorts + jean shorts + these paper bag shorts would cover any shorts outfits for summer that I could need!
