_This quarter (April - May - June 2016) I intend to bank gas points (can you say $0.00 per gallon people?!) and credit card points (can you say free flights?!) big time!
[insert heart-eyed emoji]
This is why I love my Chase Freedom Card.
The 5% bonus cash back category this quarter is grocery stores!!!
Note that Walmart and Target are not included, but it looks like Wholesale Clubs like Sams Club and BJs are included.
Now, I really don't shop at wholesale clubs, I generally avoid Walmart like the plague and sadly do not have a Target near me anyways. But since I am a human being, I do need food, and I do go to grocery stores!
(And hooray that Aldi's is finally accepting credit cards and I can get some points over there too!!)
Each quarter you can get the 5% bonus on up to $1,500 worth of purchases for all categories combined. In other words, its not $1,500 at grocery stores and $1,500 at wholesale stores, but $1,500 all together, in any configuration.
$1,500 x 5% = $75 cash back! Great deal. But an even better deal is taking the 7,500 points and transferring them to your Chase Sapphire card 1:1 to use them for travel and free airfare. Now your $75 could be more like a one-way ticket somewhere! YAY!
Our family is small, so I don't spend an average $500/month on food. Still, we can benefit highly this quarter because our grocery store carries gift cards!!
Besides what I spend at the grocery store, I can easily pick up gift cards for places like Amazon.com.
Let's say I buy $1,500 of Amazon gift cards at my local grocery store. On any given day they offer 10 cents off each gallon of gas for ever $50 you spend at the store. ($1,500 / $50 = 30 30 x .10 = $3.00/gallon)
So in that scenario I will have $3 off of up to 25 gallons of gas (I fill my tank and gas cans until I get all 25 gallons of FREE gas), I earn my full bonus amount with my Chase Freedom Card equal to $75, or 7500 miles to transfer to my Sapphire Card which have a value of well over $75, and I just turn around and load my amazon account with the gift cards and buy what I was already buying off of amazon anyways. Now rather than getting 1 or 2% from my Amazon purchases with a credit card, I got 5% and free gas ;)
PS. Since my husband and I each have a Chase Freedom Card, we can each get 5% on up to $1,500 grocery store purchases this quarter. Equaling at least $6/gallon of gas (~ 3 free rounds of 25 gallons in our area)
plus the miles! And that's not even factoring in buying gift cards we would use that are offering 2x gas points one week, or general gas point deals at the grocery store. So the value will more than likely be even higher!!!! *SO EXCITED*
Does any of that make sense? Let me know if you have questions!
