GreenBlender is a smoothie subscription that ships farm fresh ingredients weekly (or less often at your request) right to your door to make super-for-you smoothies.
I was given a coupon code for a free box from a friend and I was eager to try it because I love smoothies. Green Blender Plan Options:
As you can see, you have a few different options for how to order this subscription but a running theme is that it's kind of pricey. Yes, it's a good investment in your health, but I don't currently spend $4-5/day on healthy smoothies so to me, it is costly. Obviously if you are really into it, the best option would be the yearly subscription bringing the cost down to $3.90 per serving. (Each smoothie pack makes 2 servings)
My Thoughts on Green Blender Smoothie Subscription:
I love the concept of smoothie subscriptions. You have the convenience of things being prepared for you, recipes created for you, and you get ingredients you may not usually have on hand.
Green Blender ships in mostly recyclable materials which is great and your delivery is filled with ice packs, so don't worry about that. While the ingredients are portioned for each smoothie, some ingredients still need to be washed and cut up before blending. This keeps the ingredients in their best state, but to be honest, if I am paying for a smoothie service these are the exact steps I am trying to AVOID. I also found that most of the fruit wasn't really ready to use upon arrival. So I needed to store it until ripe before I could make the smoothie. If I was getting weekly boxes I think it would get confusing keeping track of all the ingredient pouches and recipes for multiple weeks while waiting for some ingredients to ripen. Once they do ripen, other ingredients may be beyond their peak! Before and After: Green Blender SmoothieMy Favorite Thing:
Most of the 5 Green Blender smoothies I got to try were okay. There was no specific recipe I loved so much that I would be in a hurry to repeat on my own. However, what I did love about this experience was it opened my eyes to new smoothie ingredients. Adding ingredients like cashews or even zucchini to smoothies is something I never really did before. So now I keep frozen zucchini on hand because it makes a super creamy smoothie texture which I love and adds that extra nutritional boost without affecting the flavor!
In Summary:
I won't be purchasing this subscription. I want it to be more convenient for the price, but I realize that is almost impossible! A smoothie subscription is an awesome idea, but really hard to execute for anyone. I thinkGreen Blender is doing a good job, doing their best, but it's just not for me. It may be just what you're looking for, though so feel free to give it a try and let me know!
