For the past several years I have used Turbo Tax online to file my taxes for free for State and Federal. This year I noticed that if you hold an HSA you have to use a paid edition of Turbo Tax and you also have to pay to file your state taxes. (It was going to cost around $80! I might as well take it to an accountant.... yeesh!) Thumbs down, Turbo Tax! :( :(
Switching to HR Block
I decided to do some research on the competitors even though I hated switching everything over since I had the hang of using Turbo Tax and I had already inputted all my tax info over there. *eyeroll*
I saw that HR block also required you to use a paid edition if you had an HSA, but the cost was lower and I was able to reject the option of paying an additional $36 to file my state taxes through them. ( I couldn't find any way to get out of this onTurbo Tax. I'm not saying it's impossible, I am just saying it was a pain in my rear trying to accomplish that, whereas HR block made it much easier to get what I wanted). Perks of HR Block
Tax Day 2018
Tax Day 2018 falls on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 which is just about one month away. If you still need to do your taxes and don't want to do them solely on your own or take them to an accountant, maybe check out an option like HR Block. I hope you have a good experience like I did!
