It happened in slow motion, yet so quickly you couldn’t prevent it... Your iPhone hits the pavement and you know big damage was done.... What do you do?
Step one: Panic, but act cool. Everyone is around so you downplay it and quickly shove the phone in your bag, pocket, jacket, wherever... without looking at it first because you can’t bear it.
Step two: Avoid using your phone until you are alone. You don’t want to add drama to this.
Step three: When you’re alone .... pull the phone out. Realize it’s shattered beyond belief. So bad that the chipped glass actually pierces your thumb. Have a small breakdown.
Step four: Search iPhone repair options on google. Should I order an iPhone screen replacement kit from Amazon? Consider taking it to a local third party place.
Step five: Decide to just get your butt to an Apple store and feel confident about the repair.
Step six: Drive 70 miles and realize you didn’t have an appointment, it’s almost closing time, and the first guy rejected your pitiful state.
Step seven: Almost lose hope until a nice young girl shows you mercy and compassion and decides to tell the Geniuses they will repair one more phone that night.
Step eight: Never drop your phone again!
It’s a painful lesson to drop your phone. I was so grateful to the girl who literally showed me mercy that day. I will be extra careful from now on. But the experience otherwise was great and everything has been working perfectly for weeks now. Thanks, Apple!
The one positive? At least I got 5% back in Chase Ultimate Rewards points for using Apple Pay on the purchase. I’ll turn that into a much higher value when I book my next flight ;)
