Village Bakery and Cafe
Once we got onto the island, we were in need of a little snack. You see, we woke up too late for breakfast/we weren't that impressed with the breakfast, so we left the hotel with no coffee or food in our bellies. So we tracked down the Village Bakery & Cafe and, as it is the only bakery on the island, it was not too difficult of a decision to make.
After passing through the outside tables and entering the small bakery, we approached the counter where a friendly, young asian girl welcomed us. We settled on a black coffee and the glistening peanut butter chocolate square you see above which was, evidently, a new item staring that day. After existing the building and taking a right, along the wall of the bakery and between it and the Visitor's Center were more tables which we sat at to enjoy our "breakfast of champions" and people watch.
The peanut butter chocolate square was delicious and extremely decadent. I could not have consumed one on my own and felt good about it afterward. So! we happily shared that one and cut the sweetness with a black coffee. A perfect, winning combination.
In tandem, we watched passersby with intrigue. A mature indian woman sat nearby with the most beautiful sari, young families with small children picked up brochures in the Visitor's Center, retirees gathered with smiles on their faces probably returning to the island for the umpteenth time, and young people honked the horns of their golf carts and their yells and laughs could be heard at a distance- many of them already having too much to drink and it was just lunch time.. What a curious place!
About The Bakery:
The bakery, in it's 22nd season at PIB, offers a variety of fresh sweets as well as lunch time sandwiches, salads, soups, breakfast sandwiches, and beverages including milkshakes. They also do catering!
The dessert square was around $4 and I wanna say the coffee was around $2-3? I'm sorry, I don't have the receipt anymore! (oops) :o)
