Proud to be a Butcherbox Affiliate. All opinions are my own.
As someone who has been using Butcher Box’s meat delivery subscription service since the start of the pandemic to order grass fed beef, free-range organic chicken, humanely raised heritage bred pork, and sustainable wild caught seafood…. I think I have qualified to share some insights, opinions, and a general Butcherbox review for anyone looking for honest opinions about if butcher box is worth it. Let’s get started!
What is Butcherbox?
Butcherbox is a meat delivery subscription service. Butcher box offers beef, chicken, pork, turkey, as well as seafood like cod, salmon, shrimp, scallops, and lobster. Butcherbox also has prepared items available like the Niman ranch bbq pulled pork and other fully cooked beef, chicken, and pork perfect for quick meals.
How does Butcherbox Work?
Butcher box is a subscription meat delivery service. You can choose from 4 curated boxes or create your own box. I do a custom box so I can pick each cut of meat and seafood I get delivered. I start out with the classic box. The classic size butcher box includes 6 meat choices. Once you have ordered the base box, you can add on member deals throughout the month. You can also adjust the frequency and change the dates anytime you want. So it doesn’t have to come on a certain day every week or every month. You can literally click on the calendar which day you want the charge to come through (maybe after your paycheck deposits!?) and see the associated delivery window.
How much does Butcherbox Cost?
What are Butcher box prices like? How much does a Butcherbox cost? Those are good questions and probably the #1 question asked about Butcherbox subscriptions.
As I mentioned, I order a customized Classic Size Butcherbox. The base price of that box is $159. I get to choose 6 items for that price. Depending on which items you choose, this may seem reasonable, or it may seem really expensive. The fun (and value) really starts when you get into the add-Ons and member deals. Butcherbox runs some amazing promotions. Maybe you have heard of some of them:
• Butcherbox Free Bacon For Life • Butcherbox Free Ground Beef For Life • Butcherbox Free Lobster • Butcherbox Free Steaks • Butcherbox Free Ribs • Butcherbox Free Wings When you see promotions like this you may wonder “Is Butcherbox Legit?” Like.. how are they giving me free ground beef for life? Is this real? Yes. It’s real. If you sign up on one of these promotions, for instance the free ground beef for life deal, you will get 2 free pounds of 100% grass-fed, grass-finished ground beef in every single Butcherbox order you make for the entire duration of your membership. It’s amazing. Another tip on this below in the Butcher box tips and hacks section… Butcherbox Recipes
Butcherbox offers tons of different cuts of meat and they vary throughout the year. Sometimes you want to try a new cut of meat but aren’t sure what to do with it. No worries. Butcherbox has a growing library of recipes you can access any time. I always refer back to their St Louis Style BBQ Rib Recipe and it’s one of my favorite cuts to order from Butcherbox.
Can I Order Butcher Box As A Gift?
What an amazing and practical gift idea! Since you may not want to indefinitely sponsor your loved one’s meat delivery subscription (understandable) you can check out the Gifts section on the Butcherbox website. They have some great curated meat gift boxes that you can send your friends and family. Currently here are a few of the meat gift box themes:
Butcher Box Customer Service
I did have to interact with ButcherBox customer service when a ham was grossly undersized and when a package of chicken wings arrived damaged. I used the live chat feature on ButcherBox’s website and it was a great experience. They were really empathetic and understanding. I received a partial refund for the ham. (Know that weights are approximate, but in this case it was an accident because the ham was literally half the estimated size) I was perfectly satisfied with that resolution. As for the chicken wings, they sent me a whole order of chicken wings (3 packages ~5lbs total!) in my next box, which I thought was really great of them. So definitely I’ve been pleased with Butcherbox customer service.
Does Butcherbox Offer Gift Cards?
Butcher Box gift cards or gift certificates are available exclusively by phone at this time. They hope to expand access to purchasing gift cards soon. In the mean time, if you’d rather send a butcherbox gift certificate instead of a one time gift box, reach out to this Butcherbox Phone number 1 (855) 981-8568 (Press 1)
Does ButcherBox Have a Refer A Friend Referral Program?
Yes! Butcherbox has a great refer a friend program. Right now you can give your friends free ground beef for life when they sign up and you’ll get a $30 credit on your account by using your Share Link.
Butcherbox Negative Reviews
I truthfully can’t say I’ve had a negative review to share about butcherbox so far. Unlike other grocery delivery services that have poor packing, leaking gel packs, and other issues… Butcherbox has amazing and conscious packaging. Everything has always arrived frozen for me, and when I had the aforementioned minor issues, customer service was great. If this changes in the future, I’ll update this section to let you know. The biggest con of using Butcherbox meat delivery subscription service for most people would probably be the cost. Even if the meat etc is high quality, money is money for most of us and it’s hard to spend more sometimes. SO… here are some butcherbox tips and hacks.
Butcherbox Tips & Hacks
Butcher Box can be a really reasonable alternative to buying your meat at the grocery store. If you’re used to buying organic, grass fed, and so on then butcherbox can be very competitive in price. If you buy conventional meat and seafood, you’ll definitely be paying more, but if you play the game right it may not be as much more as you’d think. It does require a little effort.
Is Butcherbox Worth It?
For me? Yes. Because I buy periodically it allows me to add deals and later decide which ones I really want when I actually need to complete my order and stock my freezer again (please don’t ever do away with this butcherbox!) I get better quality meat from ButcherBox than I can find at my local grocery store, theoretically help support smaller farmers, and I don’t have to go to the grocery store during a pandemic! Total win for me. Will I keep ordering from butcherbox indefinitely? At this time I don’t see myself changing my meat ordering system. As long as I’m living in this country, I’ll probably keep my butcher box subscription along with my free bacon and 2 pounds of ground beef for life in every box ;)
