Are Rothy's Worth The Price? An Honest Rothy's Review

Do Rothy's Get Smelly/Stinky? An Honest Rothy's Review
This seems to depend very much on the wearer. Some diehard Rothy's fans say their feet never stink when they wear the shoes while others say the shoes get so stinky that even after washing they still smell. One way to prevent stink is to wear socks with your Rothys. Of course you don't want to ruin the look of The Point, for instance, so choose a super low profile sock like these to have your cake and eat it too.
Once I have more mileage on mine I will report back on the stink levels or lack thereof. :)

Are Rothy's Actually Comfortable? An Honest Rothy's Review

So we all know about 2020. I’ve literally only worn my Rothys Marigold Points around my house. Are Rothy’s Comfortable? Kind of. For me, I feel like the Point style Rothy’s is a bit too narrow for my feet, especially my right foot. I already sized up and I think if I sized up again they would be too loose at the back and slide off. They are a very flat shoe, so if you need arch support or cushioning, you aren’t likely to find these “comfortable”. I find when I wear them a few days in a row that they are more ‘comfortable’ but if I don’t wear them for a while I do get some rubbing on the back of my right foot. I’ve had this with other shoes, though, so I think it’s a me-thing, not a rothys-thing. For me and my foot, I find these to be comfortable enough for short excursions or errands. They are obviously more comfortable than high heels and I love the way the pointed toe classes up any look. However, I wouldn’t recommend them as an ultra comfortable shoe in any way and I wouldn’t take them to do a ton of walking on pavements during travels.

Do Rothy's Stretch Out? An Honest Rothy's Review
No. Unlike a leather shoe that will stretch overtime to fit your foot like a glove, Rothy's will not stretch out. At the same time, they are not stiff, so when you put them on there is some give and they will give the illusion of "stretching" a bit. But at the end of the day they go back to their original style. So if they are seeming too tight when you first get them, don't assume that over time they will stretch and "break in".

I would say it depends. On record, Rothy's says "the structure of our knit material is designed to accommodate the shape of your foot and gently hug your feet whether they are wide or narrow." Plenty of people with wide feet would disagree online. Still others say that they just sized up to accommodate their wide feet and everything was gravy. YMMV. But overall I think it's safe to say that narrow - average width feet are going to be happier in Rothy's than a wide foot.

Yes! Remove the insoles from the shoes and toss them in the washer. Wash on cold, delicate and use a mid detergent. (I love puracy natural detergent)
Easy peasy. But whatever you do ... DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER! I'm not yelling, :), just don't want you to miss that key detail. if you put them in the dryer they will distort because they are made from plastic (remember?) and plastic melts in heat. :) Just let them air dry.

Does Washing Rothy's Release Microplastics? An Honest Rothy's Review
Rothy's are made of recycled plastic. Rothy's are washable. When you wash fabrics made of plastic, microscopic pieces of plastic are shed (aka micro plastics) and eventually get into the water system. So based on that simple math, I would assume that yes, washing Rothy's will release micro plastics. You're not going to wash them everyday (I hope). Think about your lifestyle and when / where you want to wear your rothys. For instance, I wanted to wear mine with a lot of cute skirts and dresses so I opted for The Point because I felt it was a classier look than a rounded toe. (Personal preference). Then when you get to color choices, don’t just pick the color that you like outright. LOOK AT YOUR CLOSET FIRST! :) No matter how much you love that shade of pink, red, yellow, blue, green, plaid etc., if you don’t have anything that matches it in your closet or just an item or two, you won’t wear the shoes as much as you should. So balance what style and color you love that also goes with your personal capsule wardrobe color palette!

I do find some discomfort on my right foot regarding my big toe/possible bunion situation. The shoes are definitely some of my most narrow pair so if you are even a hair past “normal width” feet, you may have a similar issue. The issue is not as bad when I wear the shoes multiple days in a row.

So far my Rothy’s have been primarily worn inside my house, so as you can imagine they are holding up just fine. I do have some snagging on the insole where I had placed another insole on top of it one day. There is also some light discoloration on the insole from general foot sweating that is to be expected. I have not yet washed these Rothy’s!

Can I Wear Rothy's In The Rain? An Honest Rothy's Review
Sure, why not? Since they are made of plastic, a little water isn't going to hurt them like it may other materials like suede. But realize that being able to wear them on a rainy day without ruining them (aside from getting a light pair muddy) does not make them waterproof. I have not worn mine in the rain yet, but I imagine water can seep in through the knit depending on how long you are outside while it is raining. I also imagine it to be an unpleasant sensation wearing these shoes if your feet are wet and rubbing against the knit, although I can't say from experience.

No. I don’t think Rothy’s are supportive shoes if you have any foot issues. Well, I am speaking specifically for The Point style. There is no support or cushioning of any kind and the low profile of the shoe looks elegant and chic but is not ideal for legitimate insoles, unfortunately.

Yes, Rothy’s make your feet sweat. Well, I should say, if your feet sweat in general, they are likely to sweat in Rothy’s just the same. After all, Rothy’s are made of plastic. They breath a bit due to the knitted nature of the material, but still your feet will sweat. And especially if you aren’t wearing socks, and most styles don’t look great with socks, so... you’re probably not wearing socks. :)
