So you are just arriving in Antigua on a cruise ship and you're wondering what you should get up to for a day. Here's how I spent one day in Antigua: One Day in AntiguaWe started out by renting a scooter from Cheke's Rentals. The "cruise ship special" was $100 and included rental, insurance, driver's permit, and delivery to the cruise ship (not really, just to the port general area). This turned out to be the most expensive and the worst quality vehicle we rented on any of the islands. We later realized the gas tank wasn't completely filled. The speedometer didn't work. At all! The brakes were not very good and one of the turn signals didn't work, so I had to extend my arm for every turn. Come on guys, seriously?! Lessons Learned: In addition to checking your rental vehicle for scratches and visible cosmetic issues, also check the gas tank, and function of all the basic features. FYI: This scooter was located in a busy and cramped spot where there was no real room for a practice ride to test it out if you were a new rider. Roti King - St Johns, AntiguaWe managed to find Roti King, a local restaurant I had read about online before hand and wanted to check out. Driving in the city was a bit stressful and congested. It is doable, but I don't really recommend it if you don't have to on your day in Antigua. English HarbourWe ended up taking the scooter down to English Harbour at someone's recommendation. I don't really recommend this though. There wasn't much to do. There were a few shops and restaurants there. You could grab a cocktail or a coffee.. Some nice views of boats on the water, but that's about it. Unless I missed something. This day overall? This day was pretty mediocre over all. I think there are a ton of better ways to spend a day in Antigua. It didn't leave me with a strong desire to return to this island, but if it was a destination on a cruise itinerary I would check out the beaches, horseback riding, or a cooking class. The one thing that was awesome about the day was definitely the visit to Roti King, though! The food was delicious and finding a local gem is always a highlight. Unfortunately as I was taking the picture of the outside of the restaurant a worker ran out across the street at me asking if I had paid. (Of course I had, I paid the other employee....) She was fine after that, but it was a little awkward and intimidating I have to say. Some Other Ideas
Curious About the Other Ports on This Cruise?See all the posts here: Celebrity Eclipse's Exotic Southern Caribbean Cruise About This Trip:I booked a veranda room on the Celebrity Eclipse Exotic Southern Caribbean cruise through Best Price Cruises. They had the best price/OBC at the time of booking and they were very responsive to any questions I had. I would book through them again!
