2 Week Sri Lanka Itinerary | Sri Lanka Travel Guide

Day 1: Arrive at Colombo Airport. Stay in Negombo

Day 2: Transfer to Kandy. Explore the town a bit or get some rest for the train!

Day 3: Take the train from Kandy to Ella Visit Seat61 for lots of train info

Day  4: Hike around Ella

Day 5: Visit 9 Arches Bridge, Demodora Loop, Ravana Falls

Day 6: Transfer to Udawalawe. Afternoon Safari

Day 7: Visit Elephant Orphanage [Elephant Transit Home] in the morning. Transfer to Tangalle Beach.

Day 8: Tangalle Beach

Day 9: Transfer to Mirissa Beach.

Day 10: Explore Mirissa. Climb Parrot Rock.

Day 11: Transfer to Unawatuna

Day 12: Explore Unawatuna. Eat atSkinny Toms Deli! Check out neighboring Galle Fort

Day 13: Take the train to Colombo. Try not to get anything stolen at Pettah Market. As most busy cities and crowded areas, pickpockets and opportunists are around. Doesn't mean you shouldn't go, just means you should always be alert. Which is true everywhere. 

Day 14: Fly out of Colombo Airport

This itinerary worked pretty well for us, but do note that traveling is slow in Sri Lanka. Everything takes a lot longer than you expect it to. So don’t expect to travel to a new spot and do much there in one day.

About the beaches. We visited Mirissa, Tangalle, and Unawatuna.

There was some street dog drama where we stayed in Mirissa and I didn’t love the accommodation itself (Sea Goggle Resort), although the people were nice, breakfast was good, and there is a promise of seeing sea turtles if you swim out a short way! Climbing parrot rock was fun.

Tangalle beach was very quiet and the people were incredible at the accommodation - Green Turtle. The food there was beautiful, fresh, and delicious.

​As your can see, we tried to see some different beaches, but if I went back I would just stay at Unawatuna. Loved the vibe there. We stayed at an incredible place (Bed Space Beach) with insanely good breakfast (Skinny Toms Deli Downstairs) . The beach was nice and I enjoyed seeing locals there.

What would I do again in a heartbeat?

1. Train ride from Kandy - Ella
2. Relax at tea cabins in Ella. Do more hikes and just relax in the tea plantation to the sounds of nature
3. Udawalawe safari!
4. Unawatuna Beach

I feel like I didn’t do Colombo justice. I didn’t explore a lot other than Pettah market. It was mainly just arriving and departing from the airport there.
