Historically I always look for the balance between the cheapest flight with the best connections and depart/arrival time when booking travel. But for the past 4 years since getting into travel hacking and credit card points, I have shifted to looking for flights with the best connections and times for the lowest amount of award points. You work hard and strategically to earn those points/miles, so why toss them away for a low value right?
But every once in a while you need to treat yourself! So for the first time I decided to upgrade my economy ticket to a first class/business class award ticket for a series of flights whenbooking with my united points.

We were created by this cute sign on the wall in front of our seats which hints to the age of the aircraft...
Business Class Seats | A321 Air India Business Class Flight Review
Here's a view of the seats on Air India A321 First Class / Business Class. Again, aged, but comfy and very spacious. Lots of leg room, especially in that very first row. I could fully extend my legs without even touching the wall in front of me. Okay, I'm not that tall. But still.
The crack between the seat and the window - not a great view. Actually pretty gross. I get that it is a difficult space to clean and there's no time for cleaning these aircrafts (ick) but still, not a super premium feeling imo.

Tamarind candy on Air India A321
It's always great to have a window seat and it was a bittersweet moment to say goodbye to this beautiful country, Sri Lanka.

Should You Use Miles / Points For Air India Business Class Flights? | A321 Air India Business Class Flight Review
I had an overall good experience on Air India A321. The plane was older and that does take away from the experience a little bit, I think. The food and service was decent. I will never forget the intense pee-curry smell in the bathroom when I got up, though. I think someone peed on the floor. :-(
Based on this experience alone, I think I would book economy award tickets with my United points (good for united flights and their booking partners) or Chase Ultimate Rewards Points if I flew on Air India again. I would rather splurge for Business or First Class when I am going to get a little more special of an experience.
