When you're trying to move away from polyesters and other similar fibers, you may think to turn to cotton. Cotton is a staple fiber which is available all over the world and can be a better choice for your clothing. You may see advertising for "organic cotton" and wonder "Why organic cotton?" "Do my clothes need to be organic?" "What is the benefit of organic cotton?"
Those are all great questions. Here are a few key points I've picked up from general research:
After following along with The Garment's Underwear Pop-up I finally bit the bullet on something I had been meaning to do for a long time - replace some basic staples. Yes, I've been on the hunt for a more sustainable bra option (See here, coming soon - here, and here) , but besides that things like pajamas, underwear, and socks were all overdue for replacement.
Pact Organic Cotton Clothing Review - Undies.
Pact was having some great sales and I decided to take advantage of their bundling options for organic cotton basics to take care of this once and for all! Here is a20% off coupon for your first Pact purchase.
Pact has 7 or 8 styles of women's organic cotton underwear, in addition to organic cotton boxers and briefs for men, and organic cotton underwear for boys and girls. You're sure to find something that suits your personal style and lifestyle. They also have bundle discounts. For instance, one pair may be $12 regular price, but if you buy 3 it's $27 or buy 6 for $50. This can still seem like a lot to spend up front for many people. Just remember that this is something you wear every single day of your life and that will last for years.
You may be apprehensive about ordering underwear online, but I took advantage of Pact's "Fit Happens Guarantee". Basically, if the fit isn't right, you can return the unworn pairs and they will ship you out the new size.
About the fit. I find the underwear very comfortable. I appreciate no VPL and that they are tag-less. I don't especially love the trim, but I appreciate that it will contribute to the longevity of the garment. Because the trim is less soft than the main body of the underwear, I thought it may feel irritating or dig in after a long day. I am happy to say it does not!
For improvement: the bundle options are generally either all black or "neutrals" which is white, light pink, and tan. I wasn't really interested in pink or white, but to get the savings per pair on the lighter tan option I had to get those other colors as well. I was also surprised there is not a bundle option for black + white or tan.
Pact Organic Cotton Clothing Review - Pajamas - Stretch-Fit Flare Pant
For Pajama bottoms I opted for Pact's stretch-fit flare pants. Sometimes I hang around my house in my PJs earlier in the evening and I wanted something that would still be presentable if someone popped over. I also did not want something very baggy and loose because I find myself less productive for some reason. If something is a little more fitted, though still comfortable, I tend to get more done. That shouldn't really matter for pajamas, but again, since I do wear these around the house they are kind of a pajama-lounge pant hybrid.
The pants have a wide waist band and are very comfortable. I followed the size chart and ordered a small. They fit well, although sometimes the wide waist band can remind you if you're a little bloated.. I'm not sure if sizing up would have been a good option or if they would have been too loose? I probably could have just as easily used some of their cotton leggings. I do like the flared out styling these provide, though. Pact Organic Cotton Clothing Review - Pajamas - Women's Sleep Tee
For a pajama top I opted for Pact's organic cotton sleep tee. This a is a long tee shirt with short sleeves that I find very comfortable. The length is ideal for me and on hotter nights a sleep tee like this can be worn alone or in the winter I can wear it over the Pact Stretch-Fit Flare Pants for a bit more warmth.
The one FYI I have about all of my black organic cotton pact pajama pieces is that they will show little fibers easily. I noticed this with my sheets & giggles eucalyptus bedding. Pact Organic Cotton Clothing Review - Pajamas - Three Quarter Sleeve Robe
Finally, the robe! Pact's Three Quarter Sleeve Robe has been a welcome addition to my pajama set/lounge wear. Sometimes you just want a little extra layer to wrap up in when you first get up in the morning, or to run outside to grab a package. The design of this robe can suit any body type. There is a tie inside the robe as well as an attached belt on the outside to give you a snug and secured fit. Due to my petite nature, I find that the collar of the robe doesn't sit as closely to my neck as I would like, so I try to adjust the way I tie the belt to keep the draft out!
I wondered how I would like the 3/4 sleeve length, if it would be annoying or I would wish that it was long sleeved. Overall I am pleasantly surprised at how much I like the sleeve length. I think keeping it 3/4 makes it versatile for summer too and I think that I would be much more likely to get the sleeve dirty/graze over food etc if the sleeves were full length.
An excellent feature of this robe is that it has pockets! One suggestion for improvement would be to make the pockets a hair bigger. I find that while my phone does fit in the pocket, it's always poking out a little bit and I don't feel confident as I am walking around the house. I am certain it would flip out if my hand isn't there as a safety net. However, if the pocket was just a bit deeper I think it would make all the difference!
Pact Organic Cotton Clothing Review - Knee Socks
The last thing I tried from Pact was theirOrganic Cotton Knee socks. I wear a lot of boots in the winter time and as of last winter I had literally worn holes in the heels of 3 of the pairs of socks I wear with my winter boots so it was time. The socks are nice, they come to just below the knee and I have not had any issues with them falling. These are not warm winter socks, per say. But sometimes I like to wear them over my chunkier wool socks for a more sleek look. On the other hand there are times when it's actually helpful to wear a thinner sock like this underneath a thick sock.
Packing Tip: Particularly when traveling. This can help you pack lightly because you can wash and dry the thin socks faster than a thick sock. So if you have just 1 pair of thick socks, but you wear a thin sock beneath them every day you can get away with not having to wash the thicker socks every day or wasting space packing additional pairs of thick socks. Pact Organic Cotton Clothing Review - TLDR
Overall, I am pleased with my firstPact experience. Their pricing is reasonable and so far I have found the quality to be good. They customer service was helpful and prompt with the exchange. Do note that while all of their cotton is organic, not all of their products are 100% cotton. So if that's important to you (ie you don't want any stretch/elastane) be sure to read the product details carefully. There is also a tab on the Pact website where you can see the items that are 100% cotton.
Pact has organic cotton basics for the whole family from organic cotton hoodies, sweatshirts, and sweaters to organic cotton leggings, tights, pants, and shorts as well as organic cotton underwear, bras, boxers, briefs, socks, undershirts and sleepwear. Pact also has organic cotton bedding and bath towels. If you use my refer-a-friend link throughout this post you can get 20% off on your first purchase! If you want added savings, or if you aren't a first time customer of pact, I recommend you shop pact through Rakuten to get additional cash back!
