Stop the presses! I just remembered I bought this candy a super long time ago at a Spanish tienda in the Pittsburgh Strip District and never ate it.
Pulparindo Con Sabor Mango is a really authentic candy from Jalisco, Mexico. It is a soft/chewy candy almost like a thick fruit leather or something. It is described as a "hot and salted tamarind pulp candy" with mango flavor. I guess that's why it reminds me of a fruit leather - it basically is one. It's just tamarind pulp with some more sugar, ground chilis, and flavor (mango) added.
Anyway, it's mad good! I am addicted... but I only have one. hahaha! If you love the combination of flavors - sweet, salty, spicy you will love this. It is a flavor explosion in your mouth! To be honest, I bought it because I was intrigued and I wanted to write about it, but once I brought it home, I kept passing it up in the cupboard afraid it was going to be gross. How stupid is that? These are amazing! I bought this one piece for .50, but you canget them in 2 days Amazon Prime style for about a quarter a piece! for $5 shipped you and 19 of your friends can give these a try and report back! ;-) What treats from abroad do you love or recommend?
Hey check back on Saturdays for future editions of Sweet Saturdays where I try a new sweet (or salty) treat and let you know how it is!
