Check in & StaffChecking in went very smoothly. We booked our room on Priceline with the "Express Deal" Feature. If you're not familiar, this is a feature that offers you a nice discount on the list prices for the hotel rooms, but it's a little bit of a surprise. You will know the area the hotel will be in and the star category, as well as possibly some of the amenities, but you won't know which hotel brand specifically you will get until after you have completed the transaction. When we checked in there was just one person working, as it was late in the evening. I believe her name was Edy, She was very sweet, polite, and even made us laugh during the brief exchange. The check in counter had some offerings to the far right -- a couple of oranges, and some raisin packages. I began to wonder, "Where are the cookies?" Don't Country Inn & Suites always have cookies? I thought they did... The RoomOur room was on the second floor, and by the way, there are no elevators here. Go ahead and take a look around: I found the beds to be comfortable and the room was free and clear of bedbugs. I always check that as soon as I get to a hotel room. Check the ceilings at the corners and peel back the fitted sheet to inspect the mattress. Worth it. The TV worked fine, although all we could find were episodes of Full House that aired when we were kids. \ The coffee wasn't spectacular, but I guess it's something to get you going in the morning. We did not use the microwave, but it is a very handy feature if you are going to have leftover food you want to eat later. We did use the fridge. The little freezer shelf in the fridge was so iced over that we couldn't fit a single bottle in there to rapid-chill. So that was lame. But, again, it's great to have a little fridge when you are away so you can store those leftovers you want to heat up in the microwave. The BathroomI found the bathroom to be very underwhelming. The sink is separate from the toilet and shower which can be a great idea, enabling someone to use the restroom while others can brush their teeth etc at the sink simultaneously. But when I got in the bathroom, I realized I had nowhere to set anything. Since there's no sink counter in there, there was no where to set my clothes I brought into the bathroom with me or anything like that. Sometimes there will be a shelf with a hanging rod for towels beneath, but this bathroom just had the hanging towels. The shower itself was fine, but seemed dated and absolutely nothing special about it at all. I think it's great that hotels set you up with toiletries. I, for one, am not too picky about my toiletries when I travel. I will always use whatever the hotel offers. Sometimes that is exciting because the products can be really nice quality. (I cherished that lemongrass soap in Phuket, Thailand. haha!!!) In cases like that, I will shamelessly take my unfinished bottles home with me to use up. In this case, I found the toiletries to be just okay. Didn't love the smell. The face bar made my face a little red, so I stopped using it. They were all fine, not terrible, but just not really exciting at all. To me, at least. DecorMy favorite part of the room was the wall decor! I thought the photography was really great. I love photography! (I'd love it if you would check out my growing Shutterstock Photography collection :o) thanks! mwah!) BreakfastBreakfast consisted of:
We ate breakfast the first day. The second day I ran down just before breakfast ended to grab some breakfast-- we only ate some of it. The sausages were scaring me. The last day we didn't even bother. The breakfast is okay. It's something. It's convenient that it is on site and runs till ~10am. It won't be your top memory of the place, though. Question still remains: WHERE ARE THE COOKIES?!?!?! As i said before, I thought all Country Inn & Suites had cookies! SummaryThis hotel stay went smoothly. The staff was nice, and when I left a note for housekeeping they took care of everything by the time I returned. The breakfast was okay. The location is okay. It's great if you want to get on Jet Express -- which we later did. It puts you in a position to visit Lake Erie's Islands and also be close enough to Cedar Point or other attractions like the African Safari Wildlife Park (Which by the way is ALWAYS on Groupon!) The cost of this hotel during peak season is outrageous, though. Listed at over $230/night on the weekend!! If you are coming during peak season, I would definitely recommend booking through Priceline so you can get a much better rate. But if at all possible, I really recommend visiting out of peak season! For list rates around $100, this hotel would be appropriately priced and satisfactory. But for over $200 it's just crazy! That's my opinion and a lesson that I learned the hard way. :o) Next Up...
