Basic Women’s Cotton Tees Review: Zenana Outfitters, Color Story Clothing, and Amazon’s Daily Ritual

As you picked up from my previous post about the Snap Button Cardigans, part of minimizing my wardrobe includes staples like basic tees. I have been on the hunt for some basic tees for a while. I randomly found some on eBay I think? (Did you know you can get cash back for shopping on eBay if you use TopCashBack?) and I have been using them ever since.
Zenana Outfitters Crew Neck Basic Tee Shirts
These are the original basics I bought in the last year or two. They are 95% Cotton 5% Spandex. For me this is a perfect blend for breathability and a flattering fit. The length is long enough to cover your backside, which I often do. I really like these shirts. They hold up decently to regular wear and washings. (Not as well as the Amazon Goodthreads- Men’s Basics I reviewed recently, though) But I would consider repurchasing these again in the future if I needed to replace one that I already have.
Zenana Outfitters V Neck Basic Tee Shirts
These Zenana Outfitters Basic V Neck Cotton Women’s Tees are also 95% Cotton and 5% Spandex and I bought 4 pack to get 2 black shirts and 2 light colored neutral shirts for summer. I used the size chart on Amazon and ordered size Large. This was unusual because I usually wear small or medium in shirts, but I figured that’s what their size chart says so that’s what I would order. Dumb move. These shirts are definitely too big for me and by the time I pay return shipping (duh - it was prime, but not with free returns. My mistake) it’s not really worth it to return these. I will find a use for them or pass them on to someone who they fit better. Probably due to them being too large, the v neck lands too low for my preference. The general fit is more boxy and unflattering in my opinion. The look is helped by adding a belt or wearing backwards so the V neck is in the back and the front has a high neckline. Still, I would not repurchase these. I can’t comment on how they wash and wear over time.
Color Story Clothing Crew Neck Basic Tee Shirts
After being disappointed with the Zenana Outfitters V Neck Tees, I decided to see if Color Story Clothing had some since I like their cardigans so much. They did! I ordered a 2 pack of black crew neck basic tees from them. They are 95% Cotton and 5% spandex and I LOVE them! They have a much more flattering fit and the material feels great. I will get a TON of use out of these. Again, I cannot yet comment on wash and wear over time, but I hope they hold up well like their cardigans. If I need other colors, I will definitely buy more of these. I hesitated because when I ordered the black ones they were not on Amazon Prime and I had to pay a little for shipping (*gasP*), but I am delighted to see that now a ton of colors are available on Amazon Prime with free shipping & returns!!
Amazon Prime Wardrobe Brand Daily Ritual Basic Tees
Finally, I tried some basics from Amazon’s newer brand Daily Ritual. They have a lot of options now and some of them I was quite impressed with. I tested out their Ribbed Short-Sleeve Crew Neck, their Stretch Supima Short-Sleeve Crew Neck T-Shirt 2 Pack, Midweight 100% Supima Cotton Rib Knit Short-Sleeve Crew Neck T-Shirt 2 Pack, and their Jersey Short Sleeve Scoop Neck Swing T Shirt 2-Pack.
The Supima Cotton shirts are the best, some are 100% cotton and the others are 95% cotton and 5% spandex. I would recommend any of them.

Summary- Which Basic Women’s Cotton Tees Are The Best:
So to sum it up, from these choices I think the Amazon Daily Ritual Supima Cotton Shirts definitely have the best quality and fit combination. They run about $10 which is very affordable and not much more than the alternatives. I prefer the mid weight versions as I feel they will last longer and I like to minimize show-through and layering lines wherever possible. I also like the fit of the Color Story Clothing Tees which are about $8. It’s important to note, however, that they are basically “Junior’s” sizes. So I ordered a large whereas I typically wear a small or medium. So this option is only available for the petite!
If your budget allows or can be stretched, I have to also turn your attention to some other great basics I have discovered between the time of trying these tees and writing this post — Encircled — An awesome Canadian ethical and sustainable fashion brand founded by Awesome Girl Boss Kristi Soomer. 💙💙💙 Stay tuned for a full post on this brand because I really am falling in love with their style and products!
