Below are my thoughts 6 weeks after buying this item:
I was tired of my polyester-filled comforter which was a terrible heat regulator. All night I would toss and turn because of being too hot since the material did not breath well. I would throw off the comforter. Instantly I'm freezing. Pull it back over me. Wait... it's too hot again. *kicks off the comforter* and the vicious cycle continues... I wanted to try something new and I wanted it to include sustainable materials, heat regulation, and no polyester! I had been seeing a lot of advertisements for weighted blankets and thought it could be a good time to give them a try. Weighted blankets and comforters are often recommended for those coping with anxiety via pressure therapy, giving the soothing sensation of being hugged. However, as I did research, I found many sustainable weighted blankets and comforters that contained recycled polyester. I think it's great they are recycling the polyester, but I was on a personal mission to find one without polyester. I had seen the Bearaby ads all over social and decided to take the plunge.

Because the blanket would be shared, I decided to get the Bearaby Napper Blanket [ review here ] for the couch naps and get a full weighted comforter for the bed. I ended up ordering directly fromSomnos via Amazon (saved $50 read here) and I think it’s basically a dupe for all the reasons you can read in the article I just linked.
One thing to note is that weighted blankets are NOT for everyone. Some people will feel more anxious under the weight of the blanket. And they can take time to adjust to. Personally I always sleep with a sheet, a comforter, and another blanket on top of me. I think it’s because I liked the weight of it. However, I would get so hot at night and thrash so much that sheets would be all over the place in the morning as mentioned at the outset. But I always fell asleep more quickly with all those layers. So for me, I the transition was not hard. I feel like I am finally catching up on sleep because I feel that I am sleeping much more soundly. I also make a habit of natural sleep aids and melatonin which definitely help. When I pair that withthis comforter, I barely move all night. What I Don’t Like About The Somnos Therapeutic Weighted Blanket AKA Bearaby The Sleeper DupeThe one thing I have to say that I hate is the zipper. I get that it gives you versatility to unzip and each person have their own blanket or to leave zipped and each person has the correct weight on their side of the bed. That’s not the thing. What I hate is the dark color of the zipper. In general, it looks nice to have the crisp white with the navy trim and navy zipper, but if you lay the comforter on the bed and there’s this one weird navy stripe in the middle of the bed, it’s just odd. It makes it really obvious if your comforter is slightly off center too. So no big deal because you’re going to put a duvet cover on right? Wrong. I put this awesome duvet by Sheets&Giggles [review here. Amazon here. Their site here] and you can still see the dark zipper through the cover. :( Now it’s possible that the actual Bearaby or Somnos duvet cover is thicker and would cover that zipper if you got it in white, but I can’t say for sure. If only they had just made the zipper white. Then you could use a white duvet cover with no problem. If you’re opting for the gray cover then I doubt you’d have any issue. For me the trouble is I am in love with my S&G sheets/duvet [review here + Amazon here] so I want to keep them. Which means I have to live with an almost perfectly white set up, with the exception of that stupid dark zipper poking through. ? oh well.
Anyway, if you check out either of these comforters I’d love to know if you are for weighted blankets or if they don’t suit you. No wrong answers, just personal preferences! These would make a great gift for a loved one with anxiety or sleep troubles.

Did you snap any pics of the comforter in the duvet cover? I have similar concerns about the navy piping and zipper.
