2020 has left me hungry for so many foods I used to look forward to during travel including Gyros. When I saw Aldi carrying a Complete Gyro Sandwich Kit, for a moment I was tempted and then I said "no, that can only be junk" and I passed it up. Two weeks later when doing my next Instacart Discount Order I saw it again... and I was hungry... and someone online said it was good. So.. here we are.

Bremer Gyro Complete Sandwich Kit - Aldi Review
I enjoyed the Bremer Gyros from Aldi... kind of. I thought the gyro meat was pretty tasty and I really enjoyed the texture of the pita which surprised me. I wasn't a fan of their rendition of Tzatziki sauce.
I ultimately would not repurchase this, personally. Primarily because the ingredient list is too long for my taste.
I also made the mistake of thinking this is something you can take out of your freezer on a hectic evening when work ran over and have something quick to eat. It's not. It does state on the box you need to thaw it overnight in your fridge. I was trying to defrost it in my sink with water and it ended up being such a hassle.
Additionally, it's not really a "complete" kit. You get pita, meat, and sauce. If you want any toppings like sliced onions, tomatoes, feta cheese you'll need to have that on hand. Of course you're going to want those veggies cut fresh, but it was something I didn't even think about until I had a sad little sandwich in front of me with no toppings besides the weird sauce that I personally didn't like. (So sad, I didn't even take a pic) When I see "complete" on the package, I think "everything I need is in there!" So this was a good reminder for me to do my due diligence when unpacking the Instacart Discount order, read over the boxes of random things I'm buying so I know what's entailed in my "quick, hassle free, meal-in-a-pinch" dinner.
