How to Style a Black Turtleneck Sweater
A black turtleneck sweater can be worn so many ways and is an excellent layering piece for winter, let alone a staple for many in a modest capsule wardrobe. In this petite style blog post I will share some of my favorite ways to style a black turtleneck sweater!

How to Care for Cashmere Sweaters
With any garment, you should always check the label and adhere to it for the best outcome and greatest longevity. Some say dry clean only. Others say hand wash. It's generally best to lay them flat to dry if you are washing at home.
Protect Your Sweaters With This Undershirt![]()
Decreasing the need to launder sweaters definitely helps extend their lifespan. One way to do that is to wear a layer beneath them. I especially recommend these sweat proof undershirts. My initial review of them is here. They definitely make a huge difference, although they are a bit of an investment. Save a few bucks on them here.
Maintain Your Sweaters With These Tools
Over time it is natural for your sweaters to obtain "pills". Friction causes the fibers to bunch up into little balls that can be unsightly. But wait! Don't get rid of that sweater, it's still good!
Try one of these tools (carefully!) to extend the life of your sweaters. Shop This Post

I'm still doing almost everything from home as far as work, volunteering, and socializing at this time, which is actually ideal for breaking in a new pair of leather boots. I wear them all over the house, at the desk, doing laundry, etc. I've actually worn them for 5-12 hours each time and have never had any blisters or real "hot spots" which can be common when breaking in new shoes. Granted, I believe that the way you walk around your house differs from how you walk when you're out and about. If I was going out I would wait until they are fully molded to my feet or just for short periods of time until they are. The top of the shaft where it hits against my shin is the one part that feels stiff on me out of the box which is expected unless you're wearing sock booties. |
It definitely helps to wear some taller socks when breaking this area in. Alternatively my favorite skinny jeans and leggings work great for adding a little cushion as the shaft breaks in and the gentle creases form in alignment with the way you move. When I was younger I used to want everything to look totally perfect and pristine, but I am learning to embrace every unique crease that develops on these booties and the way leather changes with time. They are all part of my story, just like every wrinkle and laugh line gained over time. |
When it comes to the Dari Boot I decided to size up to a size 9 from an 8.5 for a few reasons. First, I wanted to be able to wear socks with this boot, so I needed to account for that. Also, sometimes I pop in insoles (like these cozy sheepskin insoles) or little ball of foot cushions (Sheec review here) In case the slope is steeper than expected or I plan to do a lot of walking and want extra comfort. Finally, the pointed toe is my favorite shoe silhouette hands down, but can sometimes compromise space in the toe box. Often just sizing up half size will give you so much more comfort! So overall I'd say the Dari Boots fit true to size, but size up if your foot is on the wider side or you want to wear thicker socks etc. |

Encircled Clothing Review - The Comfy Paper Bag Shorts Review - How To Style Paper Bag Shorts
8/26/2021
When I was a teen I wore shorts allllll the time. I cringe at how tiny those shorts seem to me now, lol. Anyone else? As time passed, though, I stopped wearing shorts. It wasn’t a conscious choice, it just happened naturally. I think it was a combination of not loving how I felt in them and being a person who gets cold very easily!
More recently I would stick to skinny jeans, capris, or eventually stretch-jean Bermuda shorts all summer. Thus I deemed summer 2021 the year to try shorts again! |

Encircled Comfy Paper Bag Shorts Review:
Are paper bag shorts hard to style? Hmm. Well, I can see how they might be challenging to style. The Paper bag waist draws attention and adds a little bulk to your front. I prefer the look of something fitted and more plain underneath since these shorts have that extra volume and design detail and I’m all about that rule of volume. (Something fitted up top with something flowy or voluminous at the bottom orrrr fitted bottoms with something flowy or voluminous up top)
These paperbag shorts are undeniably comfy, ethically made, and allow you to look polished and high end with ease. Swap the enclosed belt for a skinny leather belt with some gold hardware to elevate these paper bag shorts some more and dress up your paper bag shorts outfit!
I’m really happy with this purchase. I will still be looking to add some chino shorts for next year though. I think chino shorts + jean shorts + these paper bag shorts would cover any shorts outfits for summer that I could need! What do you think? Am I missing something? What color chino shorts should I look for? I’m thinking white, olive, or khaki?

As mentioned in a recent post, my previous collection of cotton crews that I wore every day and had in almost any color imaginable are reaching their end-of-life phase… so I ordered some new basic V neck tees (review here) and now some crew necks to replace them. I snagged a 3 pack of Encircled’s Fair Crew Neck Tee which included White, Navy, and a lovely shade of Green!
|
Material
Encircled’s Fair Crew Neck Tees are made from a blend of organic cotton and rayon from Bamboo! While these crew neck shirts are not sheer, this material blend makes them lightweight and cooling - ideal for the warmer months!

Around 2017 I started to slim down my closet. Having stayed roughly the same size from my teenage years through my twenties, I kept a lot of clothing because it all "still fit". Through clothing swaps and donations, I paired things down and my personal style started to take shape. Through most of my 20s I embraced any color of fitted crewneck because it worked perfectly with jeans, leggings, and skirts. I could dress it up with statement jewelry or keep it low key. I basically wore a crew neck almost every day year round (cardigans over top in cooler months), and no one ever noticed.
All those crew necks were fast fashion, cotton/stretch blend (97/3?) and honestly… they were good quality. They must have been. They have held up through an immense amount of wash and wear. Many of them are getting pills and worn in a way that tells me it’s time to phase them out. So I’m venturing into new basic territory that I have avoided for a long time - V-necks. (Also ordered some crew necks, review to come here) |
Material
The fabric weight is light, making these ideal t shirts for hot summer days or for use as layering pieces.
Fit
Encircled’s Fair V Neck is described as fitted at the shoulder then falls straight down to the hip. So it’s a loose, straight fit. This is not a fit I am used to purchasing! I find the fit is a little more generous up top than I would historically prefer. Just showing the extra material on my frame as it is a straight cut top.
