Around 2017 I started to slim down my closet. Having stayed roughly the same size from my teenage years through my twenties, I kept a lot of clothing because it all "still fit". Through clothing swaps and donations, I paired things down and my personal style started to take shape. Through most of my 20s I embraced any color of fitted crewneck because it worked perfectly with jeans, leggings, and skirts. I could dress it up with statement jewelry or keep it low key. I basically wore a crew neck almost every day year round (cardigans over top in cooler months), and no one ever noticed.

All those crew necks were fast fashion, cotton/stretch blend (97/3?) and honestly… they were good quality. They must have been. They have held up through an immense amount of wash and wear. Many of them are getting pills and worn in a way that tells me it’s time to phase them out. So I’m venturing into new basic territory that I have avoided for a long time - V-necks. (Also ordered some crew necks, review to come here)

I decided to giveV-necks a chance again to add some neckline variety without losing the styling ease of basics. The reason I wore so many crew necks before is I found them simple to style, always modest, and versatile. A v-neck comes with more variables - how low is the V? How loose is the tee? Even a higher v-neckline takes effort to wear if the fit is loose and you are trying to be conscious of who can see what, you know? So anyhow… I snagged a 2 pack of Encircled’s the fair v-neck (black and white).

Material

The Fair V Neck is made of eco-friendly rayon from Bamboo and organic cotton that is knit and dyed in Toronto!
The fabric weight is light, making these ideal t shirts for hot summer days or for use as layering pieces.

Fit

Encircled’s Fair V Neck is described as fitted at the shoulder then falls straight down to the hip. So it’s a loose, straight fit. This is not a fit I am used to purchasing! I find the fit is a little more generous up top than I would historically prefer. Just showing the extra material on my frame as it is a straight cut top.

Styling The Fair V Neck - Leggings & Dressy Joggers

The fair V neck is a nice length for wearing with leggings and still having coverage. To be noted, though, is the white is a pretty light fabric. So as you can see below it’s easy to see the leggings through an I personally am not a fan of that at all. I really wish the white t was thicker. The trim at the V neck is perfect and I wish the rest of the shirt had that weight!!

Another very comfy outfit is with the dressy sweatpants- The fair v neck tucked in to those gloriously pleated and pocketed dressy joggers is another popular outfit combo.

I’m a huge fan of the knotted tee and I think throwing it over a sleeveless jumpsuit can also be a great option to add more wearability to your wardrobe!

Styling The Fair V Neck - Skirts & Dresses

The place I feel most at home is definitely dress clothes. I live in skirts and dresses and feel perfectly comfortable spending the day dressed up. The fair V neck can easily be styled tucked into a pencil skirt, under a blazer, under a cotton picnic dress, knotted over a high waisted skirt… just to name a few!
